Nuclear Security Summit
At the "Nuclear Security Summit" meetings in 2012 and 2014 the German Federal Government emphasized the need to improve nuclear security, in particular in view of the huge number of sealed radioactive sources used in medicine worldwide. It stressed its desire to support other States in their efforts to strengthen nuclear security and therefore held an international workshop on the security of sealed radioactive sources as part of the German contribution to the “gift basket" of the Nuclear Security Summit. This workshop was organized by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz - BfS) by order of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, Bau und Reaktorsicherheit - BMUB) and the Federal Foreign Office. It took place from 13th to 15th September, 2016 at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.
